The Bermuda Hospitals Board’s Blood Donor Centre is asking residents to donate O positive and O negative blood types.

The centre is at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and is open Monday through Thursday from 8.30am to 2.30pm and on Friday from 8.30am to 1pm.

The centre is closed on weekends and public holidays, and donors and potential donors are asked to call 236-5067 to make an appointment, which is preferred, although walk-ins are accepted.

Those who may be unsure about their blood type but are willing to donate can call the centre on 236-5067, e-mail blood.donor@bhb.bm, or WhatsApp on 441-533-9553.

The centre thanked the community for assisting in ensuring it can continue to save lives.

It also noted that the British blood donation rule associated with Creutzfeld-Jakob disease in humans has been lifted, making it possible for people who were previously ineligible to donate.
