Parents and guardians of school pupils were urged to monitor their children for symptoms after cases of Covid-19 were suspected among staff at one site.

A notice believed to have been sent to people connected with Dellwood Middle School said that “a number” of its personnel were thought to be impacted.

It added that three students were absent owing to illness.

Parents and guardians were advised to keep children at home if they experienced symptoms, including headache, sore throat, runny nose, fatigue or fever.

They were told that when a student recovers and has a negative Covid-19 test, they may return to the school if they are free of fever for at least 24 hours.

Correspondence sent on behalf of the health department to parents of children at other schools offered similar advice in response to a “possible Covid-19 outbreak”.

It said: “All persons who are sick with fever and respiratory symptoms should stay home and away from others until 24 hours after the fever and other symptoms have resolved (without fever reducing medication).

“If you suspect you have Covid-19 symptoms, take a home antigen test or contact a healthcare provider to get tested.”

The missive added that individuals who tested positive for the virus, regardless of symptoms, should take precautions such as physical distancing and mask wearing for five days.

Staff at Dellwood Middle School directed questions from The Royal Gazette to the Ministry of Education.
