A medical research group will host a seminar for Bermudian-based healthcare workers on sleep health and disorder management.

Mass General Brigham invited practitioners to attend Sleep Health at Every Age: Assessment and Management.

The event, held at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute, will cover ways to best evaluate and treat sleep disorders and the importance of a holistic approach to treating sleep-related conditions.

James Mojica, of Massachusetts General Hospital, said: “Sleep problems are extremely common, but they are not always recognised or appropriately evaluated in clinical practice.

“We hope this programme gives Bermuda’s healthcare professionals practical tools for identifying sleep disorders, understanding the available treatment options and knowing when a patient may benefit from referral to a sleep specialist.”

Bernard Kinane, the head of Mass General Brigham’s paediatric sleep programme, will discuss sleep in children and adolescents.

Meanwhile, Phillip Huyett, the director of sleep surgery at Mass Eye and Ear, will offer treatments for obstructive sleep apnoea.

The event will feature a question-and-answer session, a panel discussion and case talks.

It will end with a dinner catered by Harbourfront Restaurant.

The event is free and open to all health professionals.

A maximum of 2.5 American Medical Association PRA category 1 credits will be offered to physicians.

Attendees were encouraged to register in advance, which will also be available on the night if spaces are available.

The programme starts at 5.30pm on October 12, with dinner following at 7.30pm.

Registration and full programme details can be found on Mass Brigham General’s website.
