A free community forum focused on prostate care is to take place to mark Men’s Health Month.

Prostate Awareness Bermuda will host the event, titled “Men's Health: Prostate Care”, on November 17 from 7pm to 9pm at the former TN Tatem Middle School site in Warwick.

The forum explores the future of prostate and cancer care in Bermuda and the Caribbean, with a focus on innovation, access and improved patient outcomes.

Jonathan Noél, a robotic urological surgeon and medical director of Global Robotic Prostate, UK, is the guest speaker.

Dr Noél trained in the UK, the Caribbean and the USA and specialises in advanced, minimally invasive robotic surgery for prostate cancer, with a focus on recovery and quality of life.

He will be joined by Carika Weldon, the founder of CariGenetics, who will share the latest findings on how genetics testing can help identify prostate cancer risk earlier.

A prostate disease survivor will share his personal journey.

CariGenetics will also offer free genetic testing for prostate cancer risk and invites men interested to complete the consent form.

The forum is sponsored by DailyMale, the Bermuda Union of Teachers and Restoration Ministries Seventh-Day Adventist Church and CariGenetics.

A Prostate Awareness Bermuda spokesman said: “Prostate related diseases are the most prevalent medical conditions affecting men in Bermuda, in particular Black males.

“Suffering from prostate cancer or an enlarged prostate should not diminish one’s quality of life or life expectancy if they are detected early.

“Forums like the upcoming one are intended to educate not just males but their family support about the prostate conditions and the need for early detection.

“Early detection is being proactive. That is our vision for Bermuda's men.”

Men, along with the families and partners who support them, are encouraged to attend.

“Early conversations about prostate health can make a significant difference,” the spokesman added.
