Bermuda’s chances of securing a medal in women’s hockey at the Central American and Caribbean Games disappeared onThursday after the team suffered a heavy 5-1 loss to the Dominican Republic.

Coach Kovin Moodley was looking for his side to bounce back after a 3-2 loss to Barbados in their opening match on Tuesday, but there was no immediate response from Bermuda who remain bottom of Pool B with no points and their chances of progressing to the semi-finals gone.

Albania Marte opened the scoring for the Dominican Republic in the first quarter before Anna Williams added a second for them to lead 2-0 at half-time. Williams was on target again in the third quarter alongside Cecilia Oflaherti, with Mallory Towlson pulling one back for Bermuda, before Oflaherti netted her second.

Bermuda finished the game down a player after Isabel Roe received a yellow card.

With a goal difference of minus five, Bermuda remain the only team in Pool B yet to pick up points. Puerto Rico, their opponents on Saturday, drew 1-1 with Barbados on Thursday.
