Coach upbeat over Bermuda’s chances at Ball Hockey World Championships

Bermuda ball hockey vice-captain Jeremy Estey delighted to represent island

Bermuda coach Paul Paradine is looking to build on the success of his team last year when they compete at the International Street and Ball Hockey Masters World Championships in Buffalo City, United States.

In 2022, Bermuda were crowned winners of the ISBHF Pool B World Championships in Canada after they defeated Lebanon 3-2 in the final, winning six matches and losing just one en route to victory.

With 15 of the players from last year in the final squad of 20 players this time around, Paradine is backing the team to do well.

“Team Bermuda is very excited to be participating in the 2023 ISBHF World Masters Championships,’’ Paradine said.

“We are competing against the best players in the world. We have high expectations for the team, coming from off an incredible gold medal performance in the 2022 Senior Men’s Championships pool B.

“Many of the players are competing in Buffalo in 2023 and we hope to repeat this success starting with the Italian national team.”

The Masters Championships is a tournament for players aged 35 and older, with Bermuda’s veterans drawn again Italy, Haiti, Slovakia and Canada Saskatchewan in their group, with the play-off round starting on Saturday.

Vice-captain Jeremy Estey is delighted to represent the island at the global event.

“We’re honoured and excited to represent Bermuda again at the World Masters Ball Hockey Championships,’’ Jeremy said.

“We’ll face strong competition with opening games against Italy, Haiti, Slovakia and Canada. We hope to build on our success last year, winning the men’s B pool championship and have a chance to play for a medal this weekend.

“We appreciate all the support back in Bermuda. I know the guys will play a strong game and represent both our league and Bermuda well.”
