Michael Travis, the man responsible for the success enjoyed by Bermuda Ball Hockey Association league leaders Frontier, has spoken of how his team-mates have made it easy for him to excel.

Travis, 26, is the league’s top player with 22 points, after scoring 11 goals and providing the same number of assists and he credited those responsible for their recruitment in assembling a well-oiled machine.

“Overall, Frontier is just a fun team to play for,’’ Travis said.

“Bill McClure and Bill Calko did a great job of picking a team of guys that go out there to have fun. All get along well and consistently show up for games.

“This makes it pretty easy to do well in scoring. I don’t think I would be doing as well on any other team.”

On Monday, Travis scored twice as Frontier thumped CG Insurance 8-0 at the Pembroke Community Club, with Curran Trenouth also netting a brace and Adrien Faucher, John King, Chad Cundliffe and Peter Brodsky getting their names on the scoresheet.

The win resu;ted in Frontier moving to 20 points, six ahead of Spine and Sport, while defending champions Appleby are third, seven points off the leaders.

Inclement weather resulted in Frontier’s scheduled match against Appleby on Wednesday being postponed, with BBHA president Hart Freedman stating that the bad weather experienced on the island since the start of the season has taken away some gloss from the league.

“We've had a lot of rain delays, which have made it a bit more difficult to gain momentum,’’ Freedman said.

“That’s from a team’s perspective, but also from a league perspective. We always have to reschedule, people don’t gel as much, and we’re not having as much fun.

“However, we've had a number of games and some of them have been exciting.

“We have managed to play most of the catch-up matches. It’s supposed to be a 21-game season and most teams have played seven or eight.

“This is not the halfway point either, so that means we’re going to have make-up games in early January to get us up to speed.

“Our league will resume on January 8 for the catch-up games. We might play some outstanding fixtures on the 10th, then we’ll be fully resuming on Wednesday January 17.”
