Premier reassures captive industry as Bermuda conference opens

Premier Craig Cannonier: 'captive insurance industry makes Bermuda look good.'

Premier Craig Cannonier in his speech to the Bermuda Captive Conference this afternoon reassured the industry of the support of the Bermuda Government.“It is important to us that we understand the industry as best we can and create the opportunity to allow you to excel," Premier Cannonier said, adding, "The Captive insurance industry makes Bermuda look good.''He said captive insurance in Bermuda was "second to none"."I want to assure you that I will continue to represent your industry in the light that it is — the best in the world,” the Premier said. “I want to reassure you that it is our job to be here for you."The Captive Conference opened today at the Fairmont Southampton resort with a highly anticipated round-table session and almost 600 attendees on the Island to attend.The round-table session will deal with key global issues affecting the industry from a regulatory and business perspectiveSpeakers for the opening session will be Finance Minister Bob Richards, managing director, Supervision at the Bermuda Monetary Authority Craig Swan, Chief executive and deputy chairman of the Catlin Group Stephen Catlin; and Bradley Kading, director of the Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers.The Industry Keynote Speaker for the event is Peter Zaffino, chairman and CEO of international insurance broker and risk adviser Marsh Inc.The Bermuda Captive Conference will run through to Wednesday at the Fairmont Southampton.
