Joseph Lubin, one of the world’s most successful blockchain entrepreneurs, will have a “fireside chat” with David Burt, the Premier, in front of an audience next Monday morning.

The event, hosted jointly by Bermuda Business Development Agency and ConsenSys, the software company founded by Mr Lubin, will take place at the Hamilton Princess. Entry is free.

The conversation will focus on how blockchain-based technologies can change the way that business is done around the world and the opportunities this could create for Bermuda, including topics like tokenising assets and new types of decentralisation as the fintech market evolves.

Mr Lubin is a Canadian entrepreneur who cofounded Ethereum, a Swiss company that built the blockchain-based platform on which the cryptocurrency ether operates.

He founded ConsenSys, described as a “venture production studio” for the Ethereum ecosystem, helping traditional companies to leverage blockchain.

In May 2014, when he was Etheruem’s chief operating officer, Mr Lubin told The Epoch Times: “You can think of Ethereum as universal disintermediation. Everything that you can imagine that has a central clearinghouse or centralised counterparty you can re-envision as peer to peer.”

In February 2018, Forbes magazine estimated Mr Lubin’s net worth as being between $1 billion and $5 billion.

The event will also feature short presentations from ConsenSys-backed companies to shed light on how blockchain is starting to be adopted by the regulated financial industry and the Bermuda Monetary Authority will also showcase its fintech sandbox.

After Mr Lubin’s chat with the Premier, there will be a two-hour blockchain training session, taking a high-level approach to potential applications of blockchain, such as smart contracts. Carlos Vivas from ConsenSys Academy will lead the session.

Doors open at 8am on Monday at the Hamilton Princess’s Harbourview Ballroom. The programme starts at 9am and the blockchain workshop starts at 11am. To register for the free event, click on this link: https://goo.gl/forms/C3iiIFDWLQ9JaskZ2
