The Department of Workforce Development is looking for applicants for its Summer Internship Programme.

The SIP programme is open to high school students who are at least 15 years old and no older than 18 as of July 3.

Jason Hayward, the Minister of Economy and Labour, said: “We must provide our youth opportunities at an early age that enable them to obtain the skills necessary for future success.

“In alignment with the Youth Employment Strategy, the Summer Internship Programme introduces young people to real-life work experiences that help them to develop the skills that will enhance their employability.

“I thank the Department of Workforce Development who continue to provide excellent opportunities for our youth to develop the skills and abilities that will help prepare them for future success.”

Applications are available at www.bermudajobboard.bm from tomorrow (February 26) until March 31. Hard copy applications will not be accepted, and students must be able to commit to the entire month of July.

Visit the Bermuda Job Board Resources Page to review the Summer Internship Programme guidance notes and application or e-mail sipinfo@gov.bm for more information.

Grants available for youth programmes

The Department of Youth, Sport and Recreation is looking to offer new grants to support programmes to help the island’s young people.

A Government spokeswoman said the Department is accepting submissions for the 2023/2024 grant period, offering grants “aimed at helping young people realise their creative and recreational passions”.

Youth Development Grants are available for qualifying organisations that “provide support, programmes and assistance to youth”.

Meanwhile Youth Development Investments are being made available to young people who wish to pursue passions in areas including art, oration, culinary arts, science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

For more information or to receive an application packet for both opportunities, interested persons and organisations should e-mail youthpolicy@gov.bm.

The deadline for all submissions is March 17.
