IB owes us nothingDecember 23, 2011Dear Sir,I was shocked at your headline, “International Business is ‘obligated’ to help us”, in this morning’s paper. I suspect that the headline has twisted slightly what Minister Perinchief said, but nevertheless for anyone to say that the international business community is obligated to give us anything is, in my opinion, quite extraordinarily stupid. The community is already extremely generous to numerous charities and owes us nothing. It is the main pillar of our economy, and such statements will only help to drive away firms already thinking of leaving. It is on a par with then-Premier Brown’s suggestion that expatriates should not be allowed cars.I would have thought that by now it should be apparent to our politicians and all thoughtful Bermudians that we must do all we can to make international companies feel welcome and appreciated in Bermuda.MARGARET LLOYDWarwick
