Seniors are suffering

December 7, 2012Dear Sir,Last week LaVerne Furbert stated that it’s untrue that Seniors are suffering as a result of lacking health insurance and other necessities. I would venture to say that Ms Furbert, after declaring that she herself is a senior, could only be speaking for herself assuming she is still receiving a pay cheque. There are many seniors, and I applaud Miss Burgess, aka “Ms Thang” for her efforts in assisting the seniors and all those trying their best to assist because it is needed. The pension is not nearly enough to cover the expenses our seniors have in purchasing medication alone, and that’s outside of paying for groceries and electricity, by far the highest expenses next to medications.I would ask Ms Furbert to please think before she speaks going forward because I believe there is a total lack in that area. There are seniors that are making decisions about what is more important, food or medication, or whatever they can cut back on to ensure that they have either or both. As politely as I can, I ask if Ms Furbert is blind to the things that are happening here on our Island, in particular, things that she applauds and defends that have taken place in the last few years, or is she choosing to believe all is well? My father worked hard for years and spent 42 years at one particular establishment until his day of retirement. He then continued to work to try to make ends meet when he should have been enjoying whatever life he had left after working so hard. Such mindsets as Ms Furbert’s cause the issues we have. Wouldn’t it be great if she changed that mindset to use for positive changes for the betterment of this Country in her sphere of influence.ANGELA R B BROWNEWarwick
