Vote for positive change

December 9, 2012Dear Sir,I know that every Bermudian, deep down inside, instinctively knows that the Progressive Labour Party needs a break from being our Government. With all their fiscal mismanagement and now their lack of a cohesive and realistic plan to put Bermuda back on track, it would be hard to argue with a straight face that they deserve another chance at Government. Frankly, they don’t! On the other hand, we have the One Bermuda Alliance who are new to our political scene, but have a combination of youth, experience and a passion to stand up to the present Government and say “Bermuda, give us a chance to show that we can do better for all and for the ultimate good of Bermuda”. It takes guts and personal integrity to stand up like this.I believe that all Bermudians should get behind the OBA and give them a chance and give the PLP a break to regroup and determine what they need to fix from within to come back and be a credible political force in the future. In most cases a vote for an independent will not give a mandate for a new Government to be successful, and certainly “not voting” means that you are not prepared to accept any responsibility to help Bermuda out of the serious condition that the PLP has dragged us into while pretending it is someone else’s fault. It is up to us Bermudians to vote resoundingly for the OBA and a positive change. Should the OBA not provide this hoped for positive change, then we should vote them out at the next election. All politicians must know that our vote and endorsement is a higher calling, and yes they are working for the people. No exceptions.R BURNSDevonshire
