Crossing the floor

December 8, 2012Dear Sir,Wayne Furbert, the Minister of Tourism is a candidate in the next general election for the Progressive Labour Party. Mr Furbert was once the leader of the United Bermuda Party. He was elected under the UBP banner and crossed the floor and joined the PLP. Many have questioned why he crossed the floor. The Constitution allows elected officials to do so. What’s questionable is that at one time Mr Furbert was very critical of the party he now supports. On May 16, 2005 The Royal Gazette published a comment by Mr Furbert entitled “Politicians need a code of conduct”. Contained in the comment were numerous reasons why the PLP should not be the government. If you were to read the article, you would ask yourself: “How on earth would Mr Furbert join a party that he holds in such contempt?” There is absolutely nothing in the article which shows the PLP in a good light. Why did Mr Furbert join the PLP? What was the real reason? Did he even take into consideration the wishes of those that got him elected into the House of Assembly?DECEIVEDSandys
