Time for change

December 4, 2012

Dear Sir,

In the autumn of 2011, a friend of mine said that if I joined the newly formed OBA I would, as a common member, be able to vote for a leader from the floor. This was a new development in the political system and I wanted to be a part of it. Over 1,100 people gathered to hear the candidates speak. One was a previous UBP member and one was a previous PLP supporter. After a tight election the “common members” elected the former PLP supporter Craig Cannonier as its leader.

You cannot control the hearts and minds of over 1,100 people who clearly do not want the same “old wine in a new bottle”. If there was a “secret plan” the script went out the window the day the process was opened up to the floor for a general vote.

The vote was clear and loud: Time for change.
