Protect the children

April 16, 2013Dear Sir,One has to question why do we see so many unattended children left to fend for themselves? These precious little ones who appear to be under the age of ten can be seen waiting for the bus or riding pedal cycles on our roads unsupervised. You would know they have no idea, or so it seems, of the rules of the road. This is very concerning in a mobile society of 50,000 motorised vehicles. Are we so busy making time to work that we have no choice but to have these children fend for themselves? These children are having responsibility thrust upon them too early and forced to grow up prematurely. It is not my intention to be judgmental, but are we too trusting in a community where harms way is our new reality, with indiscriminate gun violence and stray bullets? I think so.I am old fashioned and believe children are a heritage of the Lord irrespective of how they were conceived. If this has become a way of life in our country, I suggest a rethink of the parents and guardians to whom it applies. Unattended young people under the age of ten will hear some of to the most vile communications of adults in public. Profanity is heard on sidewalks and bus stops routinely by those who should know better, but could care less. We have the little darlings and the fact that we have to earn a living is irrelevant, we must not have small children having to take on adult responsibility. Please consider this urgent for the sake of small children and not an unwanted criticism. Save the children, save the family and we will save our country.WAYNE B SCOTT
