Doing their best with the hand they were dealt

March 3, 2014

Dear Sir,

May I thank the One Bermuda Alliance and its entire House of Assembly and Senate teams, for trying to move Bermuda forward. The current government inherited a Bermuda that was broke, crime ridden, in economic decline and with many other challenges. To the OBA's credit, they have introduced new initiatives which seem to be helping turn our fragile state into a more resilient one. The Opposition are doing what a good Opposition does, holding the govt to account. I just wish that there was more constructive and solution oriented ideas coming from that side of The House. Oh well, we do not live in a perfect world. Will we see a more collaborative effort by both parties and the unions? Only time will tell.

Many Bermudians and investors, are looking for signs that will indicate us working together. That way there is an increased chance Bermuda will come out of its current malaise, and once again take our position, as a leading small jurisdiction. It is refreshing to see our leaders on the govt side answering questions and even apologising when they have not got it right. We know that they are not perfect but in this writer's opinion they are doing their best with the hand they were dealt. To The Premier and your team, we know you are not trying to be popular, but your hearts are in the right place and that is putting the country before self. All the best in your efforts in making Bermuda a better and safer place for all!
