Lost and found, thanks to acts of kindness

Dear Sir,

While en route to a meeting, I unknowingly dropped one of my favourite colourful neck scarves. Once I had arrived at my destination, I realised my loss and did a hasty scour of the area, but to no avail.

Due to time constraints, I could not do a more thorough search and so resigned myself to the fact that the scarf was gone.

Since I’m more of a “cup is half full” kind of person, once my meeting was over, I decided to fully retrace my steps back to the bus stop where I had disembarked. Lo and behold, at about the midway point of my journey, there was my scarf neatly tied to a metal post.

I was so happy, I couldn’t stop beaming and sharing my story.

A short while later, while walking, I once again did not notice that my scarf had slipped off me (in both instances I was carrying a number of other items). I was hailed by a gentleman driving by who saw the scarf fall and was urgently honking his horn to get my attention. So twice in a matter of hours, my scarf was lost and found.

We are often far more quick to write a letter to complain about all the ills of the world, than to take the time to voice our gratitude.

This is an open thank you to not only the persons who were instrumental in retrieving my scarf, but to all the people who do thoughtful acts for others every day. Know that your kindnesses are not in vain and may just make someone’s day.

GRATEFUL
