Attacks inconsistent with Islam principles
Dear Sir,
The Muslims of Bermuda join all right-minded people around the world in condemning the recent attacks, not only in Paris but also in Kenya, Lebanon and Egypt.
We also offer prayers and condolences to the families of the victims who suffer the loss of their loved ones in such atrocious acts. We strongly condemn these acts of violence and continue to be shocked by the savage behaviour against innocent human beings, including Muslims who more than anyone else have been victims of these senseless acts of violence. Such behaviour is inconsistent with the principles and values of Islam, and therefore cannot be condoned.
While Isil has claimed responsibility, it is our position that it does not matter who the attackers are. Such conduct is criminal, inhumane and a betrayal of the practices and teachings of Islam and Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon Him). Irrespective of their situation or condition, no human being or community should be subjected to such treatment.
We ask the people of France, Kenya, Lebanon and Egypt, who have been on the receiving end of this violence, not to retaliate with more violence in an effort to avoid the loss of more innocent life. Instead, we ask the leaders of these nations to seek justice against the perpetrators.
Further, we call on all religious leaders to exercise and encourage not only self-restraint, but love, peace, patience, compassion and concern for all human life.
In closing, we wish all of humanity God’s peace and blessings as we seek His grace and mercy.
