If you learn a trade, you will always be needed
Letters to the Editor
Dear Sir,
When I hear of people claiming they can't find a job, what type of work are they looking for?
If I had a school-aged son or daughter I would tell them, by all means get an education, as much as you can.
But somewhere along the way, learn a trade! Plumbing, electrical work, masonry, air conditioning, auto mechanic and painters, and appliance repair people come to mind; also the medical professions — nursing and more, and there's hairdressing, too. This is just a start.
I think it's safe to say we'll always need skilled tradesmen and women. Eventually, those in the trades will retire or be forced to stop working and we'll need to replace them.
Yes, you'll have to train and study, you'll probably have to work some odd hours, weekends, maybe even holidays.
You'll work in the heat of summer and in the rain. However, I'll bet you'll be able to find a job.
Not everyone can get work today as an actuary or a retail executive. But, as far as I know, you can't fix a toilet or replace electrical wiring or build a wall with a computer!
