‘I thought we already had the best man for the job’

David Burt, the Premier and Minister of Finance (Photograph by Blaire Simmons)

Dear Sir,

To coin a Bermudian phrase, it just gets worser and worser! So where do we begin on this one? Who or what is Michael Bond to demand $15,000 a day for his strategic financial opinion? Better yet, given that the Government was completely silent on the recent Westend Properties issue, exactly what “strategic communications” were there during the period January through March costing a paltry $1,875 per hour?

I thought the Minister of Finance’s self-emphasised selling point was we already had the “best man for the job”! Did we miss an announcement? What “proposed restructuring debt related to Fairmont Southampton” are we exposed to? At least to demand a daily $15,000 strategic opinion. The deal is not done yet, apparently because of the “perturbed investors”, eh Chris Maybury?

So before adding all the other monies the Government has spent on this ghost chase, we can now add $15,000 per day “plus, plus” since January. It is no wonder that those with an ounce of credibility are beating a pathway from Bermuda. Leaving only the bottom fisherman and the ne’er-do-wells posing as strategic international financial opportunists. Impressing only a government of totally inexperienced and obviously incompetent people to not even know when they are being taken.

It should not surprise anyone why the Deputy Speaker, backbenchers and former civil servants are lining up and demanding more pay for their services. Sure beats the heck out of $16.40.
