Donations to LCCA help reduce burden on families

Dear Sir,

The Lady Cubitt Compassionate Association is pleased to announce that the recent public appeal on behalf of a young Bermuda mother seeking assistance with overseas medical costs received an overwhelming response from the community.

Contributions like these can significantly reduce debt and demonstrates the compassion that pervades Bermuda.

One question we are often asked is whether donations for medical cases reach the client's account. When donations are made directly through the LCCA for a specific client, 100 per cent of the funds are credited directly against that person's medical loan balance. Unlike many online fundraising platforms, no fees are deducted, ensuring every dollar contributes to reducing the client's outstanding medical costs.

We have found that some funds raised independently for medical cases do not always reach the client's LCCA account. Donors may assume their contribution reduces the medical bill when that is not necessarily the case.

The LCCA provides interest-free medical loans to help under-insured Bermudians access overseas treatment by covering co-payments and air ambulance costs. As healthcare costs continue to rise, these loans can reach tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars. While the loans allow treatment to proceed, they must eventually be repaid.

Donations made directly to a client's LCCA account can significantly reduce that burden and help families focus on recovery instead of debt. The LCCA extends its heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to this appeal and helped ensure that this family continues to receive the care they need.

For 94 years, the LCCA has been helping Bermudians facing medical and financial hardship, and community support remains an important part of that mission.
