Why do I keep hearing about all these government-owned buildings in disrepair?

With a $1 billion budget for an island with a population of 60,000 this is disgraceful.

Doesn’t the Government have maintenance programme for these buildings under the Department of Works and Engineering? A government building painted every three years, new windows and doors from time to time, new plumbing and electrical wiring from time to time, lawns mowed, foliage trimmed, etc. This is just common sense.

A private residence with responsible owners have to do the above from time to time. How is this island presenting itself to the outside world? We want to be an upscale tourist destination, and upscale offshore financial centre. First impressions are lasting ones. Is this how we want to present ourselves to the outside world?

Get with it, Government, get your maintenance programme in shape or outsource it to the private sector.
