Dear Sir,

The Progressive Labour Party government is spending a lot of time and energy “fighting the cost of living” by pushing through legislation to force retailers to be transparent about the landed cost of goods that they sell and that we buy.

Are we allowed to ask for some transparency from the Government in return?

The Paget-Warwick ferry has not been in operation for at least five weeks and only intermittently before then. What are the Department of Marine and Ports employees who used to operate the ferries doing? Sitting down on East Broadway in air-conditioned offices on full pay?

I would have thought that with the war in the Middle East and hence (hopefully) fewer government ministers and their entourages gallivanting off on expensive taxpayer- funded trips to Dubai at the drop of a hat, we might have saved enough to repair the ferry.

It would be good to know, please: the cost of employing the staff who are not operating the ferry; the expected cost of the repairs to the ferry and, more importantly, when the ferry service will resume?

Regardless of the price of a carton of milk, people going to work who have to take a car into town and park it, or pay for taxis, are taking a big hit to their pockets.

Our premier is really good at appearing at various junkets abroad, but his government isn’t so good at the basics: paving the roads, keeping the lighthouse light on and running a ferry service.
