Bermuda should recycle plastic

Dear Sir,
Having just returned to Bermuda as a visitor after nearly 40 years as a resident, I was rather surprised to find out that Bermuda only recycles tin, aluminium and glass.
With plastic being so widely used these days, especially for drink bottles, is there any valid reason why plastic is not recycled? It does seem an awful waste of recyclable material.
