Change of ownership for Silk and 64°

Claudio Vigilante: No longer controlling shareholder of Silk

Thai restaurant Silk and 64° Bar & Grill at Port Royal Golf Course have had a change in ownership and are no longer part of the Fresco’s Group of restaurants.“We can confirm a change in the controlling shareholders,” said Andrea Dismont Trott, who is one of the directors of Silk and 64°.Fresco’s president Claudio Vigilante is no longer involved in either of the two restaurants.Mr Vigilante retains the renamed Maria’s Ristorante, along with O Bar operating in the premises of Opus Bar and Lounge, which is owned by him and other shareholders.Restaurant sources said the Fresco’s group of restaurants, like other Bermuda venues, has been hit with challenging economic times, and bad timing as it expanded. It included five restaurants at one point.Aqua at Surf Side has been closed, while Opus Café and Lounge was closed and is now operating as O Bar.Ms Dismont Trott said a revamp of both 64° and Silk is planned along with changes to the menu, wine lists and pricing.Right now, she said 64° was focusing on catering this month’s PGA Grand Slam of Golf. When the restaurants are revamped, Ms Dismont Trott said there will be a focus on value.“I think people are looking for value for money these days,” she said. “The days of high priced menus and wine lists are gone. The lunch menu prices will be coming down substantially. We will continue to provide a creative selection under the direction of Chef John Wason.”Ms Dismont Trott said the new directors hope to keep all the staff that want to stay with the new managementMr Vigilante, whose group ran 64° for nearly two years, said he had no comment on the change of management and ownership.“It’s a private arrangement,” he said.He changed the name of Fresco’s to Maria’s Ristorante in April and changed the menu to classic Italian, offering early bird lunch specials priced at $13.50 and dinner specials at $20.“It is challenging times,” he said. “Things are not as smooth as they used to be.”However, he said Maria’s has been doing well.
