Entrepreneur and author McCal Roberts never goes too long without coming up with a new business idea.His latest sideline involves cuddly toys, animals that tie in well with his book.Mr Roberts spent four months travelling around the US promoting his book, “Bonded: Discovery of the Unicorns”, visiting book fairs and stores, and doing signings.On his travels, he encountered the products of The Petting Zoo, a US company that makes stuffed animals and has grown from a small, family-run business in Virginia and which now sells in all 50 US states, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Europe.Mr Roberts realised that animals including the wolf, bat and bear toys fit perfectly with the characters in Bonded, so he has done a deal with The Petting Zoo to distribute them in some of the places where his book is being sold.“The book has done well,” Mr Roberts said. “The first 5,000 sold out very fast.”“They haven’t got a unicorn, but I’m hoping they will soon.”Bonded, published by Trafford Publishing, is a fantasy adventure aimed at those in their early to mid-teens.
