Despite the auto industry’s dismal number of car sales in recent months, one dealership is trying out different initiatives to highlight two new car models on the market.HWP held a lunchtime event at City Hall in Hamilton last week introducing the new model of Nissan March and the Hyundai Veloster.“The Nissan March has always been a popular vehicle and this class C provides roominess and comfort,” said John Corday, AVP, Automotive Sales, HWP Group. “It is the best value Japanese vehicle on the market and is economical, too. As for the Hyundai Veloster, the enquiries are flooding in due to its unique, sporty look which seems to be capturing people’s attention.”According to the Retail Sales Index, motor vehicle sales plunged nearly 40 percent in May, with 38 fewer cars sold compared to the year prior. It’s not just the Bermuda market that is facing tough times, says Mr Corday, it’s everywhere.“Global trends have dictated a sharp decline in global automobile sales and this has and will continue to impact us here in Bermuda,” he said.Though it might seem to be a gloomy outlook, people still love their cars.“Despite declining sales for the industry over the past few years, there is interest in new vehicles at the moment,” said Jonathan Brewin, CEO, HWP Group. “We are looking at innovative ways to get our message out to the public and this is just one of the ways that seems to draw in enquiries.”The event at City Hall, where passer-by hits a maximum around lunchtime, drew interest. The event unveiling the new cars to the public went well, said Mr Corday. “HWP are always happy to showcase new inventory to Bermuda and would like to thank those came out. HWP were not inundated with enquiries but did meet a few prospective leads and are more than happy to take the opportunity to introduce new models first hand to the community.”
