Fairmont Hamilton Princess is a fun place to work

Fun at work: The Fairmont Hamilton Princess ranked fourth among this year’s Top 10 Employers

Each day this week, The Royal Gazette is profiling the companies that made the top five of The Bottom Line magazine’s 2012 Top 10 Employers in Bermuda survey, this year sponsored by professional services firm PwC.Iconic hotel Fairmont Hamilton Princess climbed up the rankings from the ninth spot in 2011 to the fourth spot this year. The hotel’s 300 employees gave high marks for the hotel’s fun and friendly environment as well as focus on hiring Bermudian staff. To date, 78 percent of their staff count is Bermudian and the company’s year-over-year percentage of Bermudian workers continues to increase with the goal being 100 percent. While the hotel is facing some tough economic times, the company secured all jobs in 2011 and 2012 ensuring no lay-offs.Employees enjoy 12 weeks’ paid maternity leave, walking clubs, several sports teams and management has turned a conference room into an in-house gym.In-house training and global swap programmes as well as numerous summer internships are also available.“Being named to the Top 10 is a testament to our employees because at the end of the day, it is really their sentiment,” said Len Czarnecki, general manager of the Fairmont Hamilton Princess. “We continue to focus on our core values of respect, integrity, teamwork and empowerment and we take those values very seriously. Our employees’ pride in their jobs and in hospitality has helped us stay in the top ten.”What employees say:— “My employer is very engaging and always treats people fairly and with respect. They are always looking for opportunities to develop an employee’s career.”— “It’s like you have your second family at work.”— “My company is committed to attracting young Bermudians into the industry and providing opportunities for young persons to experience the hotel.”To view the rest of the Top 10, visit www.royalgazette.com/section/magazines.
