Inviting welcome: Owner Akilah Littles welcomes clients to her new spa Healing Hands Body & Beauty Therapies

Overlooking Flatts Inlet is a new spa catering to those who just want to unwind and relax.Healing Hands Body & Beauty Therapies focuses on a wide range of treatments all with a strong massage element. The spa is owned by Akilah Littles, who has operated a mobile spa therapy business for 16 years with a loyal following of clientele.Healing Hands is housed in a renovated 280-year-old home overlooking Flatts Inlet featuring exposed original cedar beams. Modern amenities and clean decor are mixed with an intimate and elegant feeling of home.Combining her extensive training and experience with a newly renovated space, Healing Hands aims to start the relaxation process as soon as clients walk in the door.“When clients arrive, they will be greeted with a warm neck wrap before their treatment. This is a place to relax and unwind,” said Ms Littles, who graduated from Yorkshire College of Beauty Therapy in England where she studied under French tutors to learn the art of aromatherapy and also became schooled in reflexology. She went on to achieve a CIDESCO diploma, which is recognised as the world’s most advanced qualification in the field of aesthetics and beauty therapy. The spa offers close to 30 treatments but Ms Littles is also trying to bring new treatments to Bermuda like facial reflexology, which she says can help with a variety of ailments — from depression and menopause to skin issues and infertility.“It’s an age old therapy but new to the Western world,” she said.To educate interested clients, Healing Hands is holding a free facial reflexology information session on March 18 from 6 to 7pm.The spa also offers steam pedicures which can include treatment all the way up to a client’s knee — great for runners and athletes.“Our clients come from all over the world and might feel limited in what is available here so I want to give clients what they want,” said Ms Littles. “I want to give people options.”“Ultimately, we’re looking to change the way our clients feel by the time they leave,” she added. “It’s not an assembly line here, we want to take care of our clients. It’s not just about applying products, it’s about improving circulation and treating the underlying structures.”While they are still renovating the space, there are currently two private treatment rooms and within weeks will be three pedicure chairs and two manicure chairs.Within the next month six more therapists will start to help service the new clientele.Ms Littles has created a bespoke treatment menu, she says, where clients can pick and choose different treatment options according to their preferences. The products the spa uses, including Eminence Organic Skin Care, are a featured part of the treatment process.“There has never been a line that I’ve been more passionate about because it is so results oriented,” said Ms Littles. “It’s not just pretty smelling product, it works.”Pricing, she adds, has been tailored to every budget — offering express services for facials, manicures and pedicures while featuring many ‘add on’ treatments.“We also have a more comprehensive treatment offering with different ranges of time,” she said.Starting a new business in a down economy can be daunting but Ms Littles is undeterred.“We’re very excited — this was an opportunity that came out of the blue but I can see the potential of the business,” she said. “It’s a lot of hard work and sleepless nights but it’s all worth it.”Healing Hands is open Sunday-Thursday from 9am-7pm and Friday from 9am-5pm. Clients can also arrange treatments by appointment. The spa offers a referral programme and a discount plan where clients can receive five percent off if they purchase three prepaid treatments, seven percent off for six prepaid treatments and ten percent off for 12 treatments. They also offer spa parties as well. There will be a different spa promotion every month of the year featuring a different treatment. For more information contact healinghandsflatts@gmail.com or 441-293-2579 or on their Facebook page.
