Visitors to Dockyard are in for a fab time this summer.Wedco yesterday announced several new events for the coming cruise season, including a weekly concert of the songs of John Lennon and an historical re-enactment where visitors can have their photos taken with actors in period costume. In partnership with TFD Productions, Wedco will be hosting the Lennon Dockyard evening each Thursday night from 6.45pm to 9.45pm, starting May 16 in the Victualing Yard.It is billed as a free evening of music — songs by John Lennon and other party favourites will be performed.Bermuda inspired the former Beatle to begin writing songs again.A Bermudian band and singers will perform 30 songs from Lennon’s career including some of the songs written in Bermuda. In partnership with EPM Management, Wedco said they will also be hosting the Destination Dockyard each Monday evening from 7pm to 10pm over 18 weeks.“This will be an evening of diverse local talent, combined with the element of competition, exciting prizes, family and youth engagement and unique shopping opportunities,” Wedco said.“The atmosphere promises to be lively, inviting, friendly and memorable for both our visitors and locals. It will be an evening of competition with the opportunity to vote for your favourite band, dance troupe, Gombey troupe, choir, songwriter, majorette, etc. The proposed start date for this event is May 6th from 7pm to 10pm and the event will run for 18 weeks until September 2nd. We will have local bar operators, food vendors and other vendors with Bermudian items for sale over the evening which will be staged on the North Lawn and around the Clocktower Mall.”The events are designed to fit in with the ferry schedule timing for a return journey to Hamilton. In addition, there will be an historical re-enactment on Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday and Friday mornings during the summer season. In partnership with Select Sites Group, Wedco said it will be hosting the re-enactments from 9.30am from May 5 until 13th October near the Moongate in Dockyard.“With actors in period costume giving a short performance to depict life in the Royal Naval Dockyard around 1809, explaining the historical aspects including breakwaters, fortifications, storehouses, workshops and barracks, designed to be an informative and fun event and with the added impact of a cannon being fired during the show, this will be an event not to be missed,” Wedco said.Visitors will have the opportunity to have a photo taken with one of the actors each day and then to go on and explore the Royal Naval Dockyard and identify the areas they have just learned about.
