Sold: The former White’s supermarket in Warwick

The White’s supermarket property in Warwick has sold.Listed with Rego Sotheby’s International Realty, the former supermarket, which closed down last year, was put on the market at an asking price of $7.64 million.The realtor confirmed the property has sold, but declined to say who bought it.Lindo’s, which already owns a Warwick supermarket, confirmed they did not buy the property, and MarketPlace president Gary Shuman said MarketPlace did not purchase it. Other grocery groups could not be reached for comment.The Middle Road property consists of the supermarket building and land and also a 920-square foot building and a lot across the road.The White’s supermarkets in Warwick and Southside were closed down in August after Supreme Court orders to wind them up.A total of 33 creditors had come forward seeking money owed.KPMG were appointed joint provisional liquidators of White’s but managing director Mike Morrison said at the time they were not appointed in relation to White and Sons (Holdings) Ltd ”that we understand owns the building that the White’s store in Warwick previously operated from”. He said: “We are aware of the property being marketed and assume that White and Sons (Holdings) Ltd have instructed the realtors listing the property.”The property comprises over 32,000 square feet, plus two freight elevators, two loading docks, and parking capacity for 50 cars.Nelson Hunt has taken over the former White’s Hayward’s store in Warwick, now Hunt’s Grocery.
