Free workshops for online entrepreneurs

Minister Michael Fahy

Free Government workshops for budding online entrepreneurs are set to start next week.

Run by Inspire eBusiness, set up to encourage e-commerce on the Island, the classes will cover everything from registering for payroll tax to cyber security.

Minister for Home Affairs Michael Fahy said: “I encourage both existing e-entrepreneurs and those wishing to start an online business to attend these workshops.”

He added: “In today’s world, many companies are turning to an online format from which to conduct their business.

“As the world changes, we must change with it and embrace the new technological advances, making way and creating opportunities for this new breed of entrepreneur.”

Minister for Economic Development Grant Gibbons said: “These educational seminars have proven to be invaluable to those wishing to create and boost their online presence for greater business reach.

“Those attending learn about the local rules and regulations of starting an online business.

“They also learn about cybersecurity, support available for online businesses, as well as methods to boost their online businesses and add e-commerce modules to their sites.”

Dr Gibbons added that experts and existing e-entrepreneurs will be available at the workshops.

The workshops, sponsored by the Department of e-Commerce and coordinated by the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation, start tomorrow at 12.30pm at the Chamber of Commerce offices at Albuoys Point in Hamilton.

Anyone interested in attending one of the workshops, which will cover a variety of topics, should call 292 5570 or e-mail orochester@bedc.bm.
