The Dining Room at Gibbs Hill Lighthouse is to reopen tomorrow after major renovations.

The Southampton restaurant, known for its breathtaking views as well as fine dining, has been shut for four months for a revamp.

Odilio Angeli, head of Dining Bermuda, which also includes Rustico in Flatts and Gulfstream on South Shore Road, said he was looking forward to showing off the new-look restaurant and menu.

Mr Angeli added: “There have been major renovations inside and structural changes.

“We’ve spruced the place up, changed the menu and we’re ready to reopen for the season.”

He said: “I’ve taken the pizza out of the menu and we’ve made it a bit more upscale and we now have tablecloths on the tables, which we didn’t have before.”

Mr Angeli added that the al fresco dining area would also reopen in time for the summer.

The new-look establishment features a lighter interior colour scheme and a re-stained bar, as well as new lighting and a real fire to add a bit of romance to the dining experience.

Mr Angeli said: “We’ve replaced the old lights with LED lights which are adjustable and can even change colour.

“We’ve also changed the draperies. The walls now have a very light grey and beige colour scheme. We went for pastel colours — it’s a small space and it looked too dark. Now it’s brighter. With the new lighting, it makes it much warmer as well.

“To make it more romantic, we’ve reestablished the fireplace with a real fire. Previously, it had a gas fire, which was never used.”

The kitchen has also undergone major renovations, while the Department of Works & Engineering has carried out rewiring work.

Mr Angeli said: “Right now, we’re happy with the result. We’ve refurbished the kitchen a little bit so everything is virtually brand new and we’re looking forward to a good start to the new season, especially with the America’s Cup coming up.

“The Dining Room is a beautiful venue to watch the boats. We’re going to have to check with the Parks Department if we can entertain outside, but I’m expecting a lot of business because it’s such a great place to watch the races and have lunch and dinner.”

It’s the second time in recent years The Dining Room has been renovated.

The building was badly damaged by Hurricane Gonzalo in October, 2014, with large sections of the roof ripped off.

The restaurant was closed for several months while repairs and renovations on the government-owned building were carried out.

The Dining Room opened seven years ago in the premises once occupied by a long-established tea room.
