One of the most popular cycle brands in Bermuda has a new local distributor.

"I can confirm that after months of negotiations Cycle Zone has been chosen to represent Sym here in Bermuda," Cycle Zone general manager Gerald Saltus said.

Cycle Zone will begin selling the brand on November 1 out of their store, Helmet Town, on Spurling Hill in Hamilton.

“We have expanded one side of our showroom to display them,” Mr Saltus said. "We are excited about that.”

Taiwan-based Sym has been selling bikes in Bermuda for more than a decade through Cycle Care.

"If you look at the statistics from TCD, there are more Syms on the Road than any other brand on the island,” Mr Saltus said. “Sym used to build bikes for Honda and Honda has always been known as a reliable brand. Once Sym discontinued their partnership with Honda they started producing bikes on their own and have been quite successful."

He thought the price point attracted many customers. The bikes generally run from $2,400 to $3,500, depending on the model.

Mr Saltus said their customers vary from teenagers getting their first cycles to retirees.

"Our customers are people looking for a good deal," he said.

"The bikes we will be getting in stock will be the Sym Symphony STs. They come in a 50CC and 125CC. Sym is supposed to make an announcement in November about some new ranges of cycles they will be making. We are waiting for that."

Cycle Zone kept the changeover hush while they negotiated the deal.

"Now that we have gotten to the end of the road here, in terms of the acquisition, we want to make sure that our customers know that Sym will still be sold in Bermuda through Cycle Zone,” Mr Saltus said.

They will also be providing service, parts and support for older Sym bikes.

"There will be no gap in the service that is available," Mr Saltus said.

Cycle Zone have been operating for ten years and also have a store on Somerset Road in Sandys.
