The winners of a photo contest that offers as top prize the person’s weight in swizzle are to be announced on Friday.

9 Parishes Authentic Rum Swizzle and Goslings Rum have collaborated to run the contest, which is being held to celebrate 9 Parishes’ new island-themed packaging, the companies said.

9 Parishes’ owner and creator Chris Furbert Jr worked with the blending team at Goslings to create his own proprietary blend of Goslings rum to be used to make 9 Parishes Swizzle.

Mr Furbert said: “While the old packaging was really nice, production was problematic and the natural settlement at bottom of the bottle – for some who do not understand what real swizzle looks like – may have been a bit distasteful. So, I wanted something more complete.

“The new bottle is eye-catching, protects the integrity of the brand, says Bermuda without saying Bermuda and basically says BUY ME and even keep me. 9 Parishes - party in a bottle.”

Andrew Holmes, brand director at Goslings Export Bermuda Ltd, said: “I am delighted to see 9 Parishes growing from strength to strength. The new package resonates the quality of the rum swizzle in the bottle.

“We are fortunate to have a partner so passionate in promoting a Bermuda tradition, rum swizzle.”

The companies said Goslings pitched the idea to “win your weight in swizzle”, a concept that they said has only been attempted on one other occasion with rum.

The contest requires participants to purchase a bottle of the new 9 Parishes packaging and post a photo with the new bottle to their Instagram page or story.

The locally made and bottled swizzle is now offered in four sizes – a 375ml bottle, its flagship 750ml bottle, 1.5 litre bottle and gallon bottle size. All size bottles are eligible for the contest.

The companies said participants must follow @9parishesbda and @goslingsrum, adding they must #9parishes and tag three friends in their post.

Contest terms and conditions stipulate that participants must be located in Bermuda and be 18 and older to be entered into the giveaway.

The companies said prize winners will be announced on Friday between 5pm and 6pm on DJ Rusty G’s show on Vibe 103FM.

The official weigh-in of the winner will take place at a later date.

The companies said 9 Parishes rum swizzle is available at more than 50 locations around the island.
