Entrepreneurship 101, the course hosted by the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation, returns to in-person delivery and organisers have slashed the cost to just $180 to ensure cash-strapped entrepreneurs can be accommodated.

The cost was $300 the last time classes were in person in 2019, but was reduced to $150 during the pandemic when it was being delivered online.

With registration now open for the return to in-class learning, the BEDC said the reduced cost created an expanded opportunity for the course to provide new and aspiring entrepreneurs with the knowledge, tools, and resources needed to start their businesses successfully.

Participants can expect to walk away with an understanding of the basics of small business management and how to create an effective business plan.

The course will run from October 11 through January 17, with sessions every other Tuesday from 6pm until 8pm.

It will be facilitated by Donte Hunt, BEDC’s micro, small and medium enterprise officer.

Ray Lambert, director of micro, small and medium enterprise, said: “When putting together the syllabus for this course, we kept in mind some of the major challenges faced by entrepreneurs on the island.

“At BEDC, we meet with business owners regularly, so I am aware of how difficult it can be to set up and operate a business in Bermuda. Entrepreneurship 101 is a great way to get a handle on the process.”

Entrepreneurship 101 will cover making the decision to start a business; validating your product or service; writing a business plan; understanding government obligations; knowing the cost of your business; funding your business; marketing, operations and human resources.

Gwendolyn Creary, a graduate of the course, said: “Entrepreneurship 101 was one of the significant turning points in my entrepreneurial journey.

“Nearly every week, an expert in a particular aspect of setting up a business was invited to present their expertise and be an industry contact. They provided opportunities for participants to be supported and valued, no matter the stage of their journey as an entrepreneur.”

The course will be taught at the BEDC Office, 1st Floor, Sofia House, 48 Church Street, Hamilton.
