Bermuda Investor Community has attracted more than 30 new investors to the island’s first fully digital angel investment platform, which brings local investment opportunities to qualified individual investors.

The Bermuda Investor Community is supporting five local businesses in their quest for investment, with many more expected to follow, organisers say.

Those businesses are in a range of sectors including edutech, insurtech, property design and development, and social media. Available ticket sizes range from $5,000 to $100,000.

The Bermuda Investor Community is a social enterprise, which charges nothing to investors and recycles all of its profits into the Ignite entrepreneurial accelerator programme — which is operated under a common charitable trust parent entity — with the aim of creating a self-sustaining ecosystem for all entrepreneurial businesses in Bermuda.

Organisers said the platform is designed with the needs of both entrepreneurs and investors in mind.

For investors, all of the investment opportunities are presented in a standardised format, which makes browsing and comparing deals quick and easy.

For entrepreneurs, the platform provides guidance on how their investment opportunity should be presented and the information that investors will likely want to see.

No deal goes “live” until the platform’s administrators are satisfied that their guidance has been followed. This is designed to make it easy for investors to find opportunities they like, and either pledge to invest straightaway or reach out to the entrepreneur to find out more and negotiate terms.

Caroline McGill, executive chairwoman of the Bermuda Investor Community, said: “We are delighted that the companies on the platform are gaining traction with customers and investors alike. It’s great to see the hard work of the entrepreneurs and our team beginning to pay off.

“We are also thrilled by the positive response we have had from the investor community with so many signing up following our launch this summer.

“We hope to see many more investors contact us for more information at enquiries@investorcommunity.bm or register on our platform to make the most of the opportunities which we are bringing forward.”
