A new chapter has begun for the buzzing kitchen at the Ocean View Golf Course clubhouse in Devonshire.

This week, The Factory BDA is holding its grand opening, which kicked off in style with a ribbon cutting on Tuesday. The official opening follows a soft opening last year.

The restaurant is operated by Rakeem Deshields and Daniel Woods along with chefs Keo Darrell, Jai Trott and Akil Trott.

A spokesman said: “An influx of fantastic, young local talent who are well versed have come in and created a great vibe within the organisation. The chefs have a wealth of talent and experience coming from some of the best restaurants on-island and have formed their own ‘dream team’.”

Owner Mr Deshields first capitalised on the island’s craving for birria tacos during the Covid lockdown in 2020. After sharing pictures of the tacos with friends and providing samples, what started as 20 pre-orders from his house grew to 100-plus pre-orders every Tuesday.

The space at Ocean View became available via a request for proposal early last year.

The Factory is putting a spin on creative fast food trends with tacos, “nugs”, bodega burgers and daily specials such as birria ramen, lobster rolls and fish cakes. Fish dinners and jerk chicken plates are also on offer.

The spokesman added: “Some patrons have said the burgers and tacos are some of the best on the island. This makes sense because these menu items were the initial major claims to fame.”

The food is available for dine in or take out.

The owners said they will organise a new takeout hub in time for summer and make delivery options available at the end of this month after formally joining the Sargasso app, and will continue to offer catering services.

They added that a new trailer/second location is coming soon for more pop-ups/catering at events.

Bookings for Ocean View Hall now come under The Factory’s remit as well.

The spokesman said: “It’s an exciting time. The Factory is ready to fully put themselves out there for the entire island to see their offerings.

“The grand opening will feature a week-long of programming with new daily specials and menu item additions. Old and new customers are welcome to try and enjoy food and witness the growth of the business.

“Each day of the week will have different specials which run in tandem with the bar and entertainment.”

The Factory is open Tuesday through Saturday for lunch and dinner, and on Sundays from 8am until 4pm.
