Carey Olsen Bermuda associate lawyer Mahogany Bean is to be seconded to the firm's Hong Kong office this month to work alongside Hong Kong partner Matthew Watson.

Mr Watson formerly practised in Bermuda.

Ms Bean, a Bermudian, successfully completed her pupillage with Carey Olsen and was called to the Bermuda Bar in April 2022.

The firm said she had developed a broad practice within Carey Olsen's dispute resolution department, taking a keen interest in government and public law work, regulatory and general civil and commercial matters.

The secondment is for a minimum period of six months.

Ms Bean said: "I have really enjoyed developing my skills in the busy Bermuda office but I always saw myself developing the international side of my practice in Asia, so I am grateful for the opportunity to do so.

“Although I will miss my Bermuda colleagues and clients, I am very excited to work with Matt and the great team we have in Hong Kong."

Bermuda partner Kyle Masters said: "Mahogany has been an integral part of the dispute resolution team here in Bermuda and she will be missed.

“However, having also taken this opportunity myself in 2018, I know how beneficial it will be to her career development as well as the firm's continued growth within the Asia market. We wish her every success."

Bermuda managing partner Michael Hanson added: "Mahogany is the fifth attorney to be seconded overseas since our inception in 2017.

“Obviously, as a global business, which thrives on effective talent management, it is critical to show a clear and considered path for talented lawyers both within and outside Bermuda.

“We look forward to welcoming Mahogany back after the successful completion of her secondment in Hong Kong."

Carey Olsen said secondments provided lawyers with the opportunity to build relationships with clients in different jurisdictions and with lawyers from across the firm while gaining a breadth of experience and skills to enhance career development.
