The Bermuda Economic Development Corporation is hosting a free webinar on alternative paths to homeownership and long-term housing stability.

The speaker will be Peter Dean, director of National Co-op Community Services, Urban Homesteading Assistance Board in New York.

The two-part virtual webinar, Cooperative Home ownership: The Power of Residents in Control will outline how it works in practice and how it could be adapted to Bermuda’s housing landscape.

The workshop is aimed at community leaders, policymakers and residents.

The BEDC said whether attendees are new to the concept or actively seeking solutions to affordability and security of tenure, the sessions are designed to provide clear, practical guidance on the mechanics, benefits and challenges of the model.

Participants will learn how to transition existing buildings into co‑operative ownership.

They will explore financing and affordability structures that support long-term sustainability, examine key considerations for Bermuda and connect global insights and lessons to potential opportunities in Bermuda.

Topics covered will include how co‑operative housing developments are structured and built, how ownership is achieved through collective participation and how affordability mechanisms are designed to keep housing costs manageable over the long term.

The webinar will be held in two sessions with part one on April 27, and part two on April 30, both from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.

Registration is required. Call 292-5570 or see www.bedc.bm
