An iconic and historical Paget property is up for sale for $2.9 million.

Salt Kettle House is listed on the Coldwell Banker Bermuda Realty website. Hazel Lowe ran the popular facility for almost 45 years before passing away in June 2015. After her death, her children operated the 0.43-acre development as a residential property.

The Coldwell Banker listing with agent Angela Hanwell states: “This residence enjoys exceptional harbour views, waterfront access and a location that has remained highly sought after for generations.”

Portions of the residence date back more than 300 years.

“The property reflects a rich Bermudian heritage while offering remarkable scope for its next chapter,” Coldwell Banker said. “With nearly 5,000 sq ft of internal space, the current guesthouse comprises a six-bedroom main house, multiple formal reception rooms, two kitchens and a collection of separate, self-contained guest accommodations.”

Additional features include four fireplaces, three water tanks with a Watlington Water connection and a detached carport.

It is being marketed as a private family home or tourism venture.

As the news hit social media on Thursday, people traded happy memories of the Salt Kettle Guest House.

One Facebook user remembered years ago wandering onto the property by accident, and being welcomed with open arms by Ms Lowe, complete with a drink.

“I had never met her before then, and she treated me like a treasured guest instead of the interloper that I was,” she said.

A local artist said: “It is a beautiful setting and a classic property. A piece of history. Seems it is time now, like all properties, for someone else to take the reins and continue into a new era.”
