Short-order closure for Chiko’s restaurant

As the City of Hamilton turns into the busy summer season, the on-again, off-again Chiko’s restaurant is off again.

Less than five months after taking space on the second floor of Bermudiana Arcade on Queen Street, the business was shut on Friday.

Prior to that, the owner, Michiko Campbell, was operating from the grounds of Devonshire Recreation Club, having built an interested clientele.

He started selling his own line of spice blends, Chiko’s Smokey Rubs, in 2014. Eight years later, he opened a catering business to rave reviews.

There are indications that part of the business may survive. An online message to valued customers last Thursday advised that July 3 was the last day of operation as a full-time restaurant.

The note pasted to the website, www.chikosbda.com, said: “We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported us from day one. Your loyalty, encouragement, and patronage have meant the world to us.

“While our restaurant doors will be closing, this is not goodbye! Moving forward, Chiko’s will be focusing exclusively on catering services.”

Clients with catering inquiries were directed to the e-mail address chikoscateringbda@hotmail.com.

The management prepared message added: “Thank you for your unwavering support.”

In the few months that it had been opened, Mr Campbell offered a lunch menu only, as the lounge Evolve Bda used the space for evening service and pop-up events.
