Bermuda representatives will join Caribbean countries in Miami for the 1st KPMG Caribbean Healthcare Summit, CariHealth 2026, a new annual summit dedicated to advancing health system delivery, investment and reform across the Caribbean.

The 10th annual Caribbean Infrastructure Forum concludes the day prior, and CariHealth will offer a direct continuation of the regional conversation into one of the Caribbean’s most critical, and often underdeveloped, sectors, according to a statement from one of the organising groups, New Energy Events.

One of the Bermuda speakers is Edward Fitzgerald, global co-lead, health equity and access in developing markets, KPMG International; head of Healthcare and Life Sciences KPMG Islands Group.

Dr Fitzgerald said: “Through our work in Caribbean and island health systems, we know that meeting the impact of evolving demographics and climate change requires more than just capital; it requires a fundamental shift in how we approach infrastructure and delivery.

“We hope our extensive Caribbean and island healthcare transformation expertise, in collaboration with New Energy Events, will help to create a pivotal opportunity to discuss how the region can build resilient and equitable healthcare systems with integrated and regionally coordinated strategies.

“We believe that through reimagining healthcare infrastructures, innovative workforce solutions and digital innovation, we can build the future-ready health systems that the Caribbean’s people and economies deserve.”

New Energy Events, the second group involved in launching the inaugural Caribbean healthcare summit said the event on September 17 will also bring together health ministers, investors and “multilaterals”

The second speaker based on the island is Charlotte Reboul, while other local contributors include Daniel Cavanagh of Bermuda College, speaking on the Youth Mental Health Plan and Preston Swan of the Bermuda Hospitals Board.

CariHealth 2026 marks the launch of a long-term regional platform designed to track progress, build cross-sector partnerships, and sustain momentum for healthcare transformation across the Caribbean.

New Energy Events said: “CariHealth 2026 marks the launch of a long-term regional platform designed to track progress, build cross-sector partnerships, and sustain momentum for healthcare transformation across the Caribbean.”

A statement said: “Caribbean island health systems face growing pressure to modernise: to better serve populations, withstand intensifying climate events, and close persistent gaps in access and equity.

“Working against a backdrop of tightening fiscal constraints and chronic workforce and supply chain restrictions, creative solutions are required to reshape the region’s approach to care.

“CariHealth 2026 is built to tackle the practical questions at the heart of this transformation: How can island governments unlock sustainable financing pathways to Universal Health Coverage? What does it take to build climate-resilient health infrastructure? How can digital health and telemedicine close persistent gaps in access and equity?

“And how can the region address the workforce shortages and pharmaceutical supply chain vulnerabilities that undermine care delivery every day?”

The statement added: “While those who represent capital and political will are increasingly aligned, a dedicated forum where they meet the policymakers and operators who can put them to work has not existed — until now.”
