RoyaLand appoints Matachione to board
Bermuda-based holding company, the RoyaLand Company has added Nazario Matachione to its board of directors.
The firm is focused on creating an online and offline immersive, fantasy-based royalty-themed game called The RoyaLand. It also has a professional football club Savoia 1908 based in Campania, Italy.
Founder and chief executive Prince Emanuele Filiberto di Savoia was pleased to bring Mr Matachione on to the board of directors given his deep involvement in their football club subsidiary.
“It brings my family’s royal branding of a professional Italian football team into the equity holdings of RoyaLand,” Prince Emanuele said.
The 54-year-old is the grandson of Umberto II, the last King of Italy. He grew up in exile in Switzerland because, until 2002, the Italian constitution banned male descendants of the Savoy Kings from entering Italy. He holds no official royal power because Italy is now a republic.
Prince Emanuele said, together with his eSports team he is bridging the business models of traditional football and games software.
“Nazario is an important part of this collection of branded and proprietary assets we have assembled,” he said.
Mr Matachione is an Italian entrepreneur and licensed pharmacist with more than 25 years of leadership experience in healthcare and organisational transformation, among other things.
He created one of Italy’s first integrated multi-pharmacy organisations under a single ownership structure, centralising purchasing, logistics, finance, marketing and operations. He grew annual revenues to €35 million ($41 million), bringing in major pharmacy operators.
From 2003 to 2005, he also led Savoia 1908, introducing a long-term organisational strategy focused on youth development and sustainable growth.
In 2022, he and Prince Emanuele founded Casa Reale Holding, contributing to its corporate structure and strategic development.
Starting last year, he also served as strategic adviser to Yokohama Pharmaceuticals, contributing to the development and international launch of a new global healthcare brand scheduled for commercialisation in 2027.
