Luscar Place milestone celebrated
Developers took another step in the reshaping of the West Hamilton skyline today, as a key construction milestone was achieved in the building of Luscar Place, the mammoth seven-storey development that will be the latest addition to Pitts Bay Road.
More than half of the 135,000 square foot retail and commercial office space has already been committed through signed lease agreements, well in advance of its projected completion date next July.
Architects, engineers, consultants, construction crews, stakeholders, together with representatives from the Bermuda and US Governments, joined the developers for installation of the final structural steel element and celebrated the official topping-out of the building.
In attendance was Andrew Murdoch, the Governor, together with Antoinette Hurtado, the US Consul General.
On behalf of Greenaap Consultants Ltd, Andrew Green said: “This progress reflects our shared commitment to delivering a property that will contribute meaningfully to Bermuda's future growth and success.”
He said: “Luscar Place is already at over 50 per cent occupied. I want to thank Rego Sotheby's for their tremendous work in getting us to this point.
“It's also another reminder of Bermuda’s continuing ability to attract world-class companies to the island.”
A Greenapp statement said the topping-out ceremony served not only as a celebration of progress, but also as an opportunity to recognise the skilled workers, tradespeople and partners whose dedication continues to move the vision forward.
Joining Mr Green for his acknowledgement of officials, project partners and construction workers was his brother, Alexander Green.
The Rego Sotheby’s International Realty Bermuda team was led by partner Penny MacIntyre, the exclusive agent for the property. Also invited were D&J Construction joint managing directors Dennis Fagundo and Andy Pereira.
Ms MacIntyre said: “Well done to the entire development and construction team on today’s milestone of Luscar Place’s 135,000 square foot property.
“Future tenants, prospects, and the community now have a real sense of the panoramic City of Hamilton, harbour and island views across its seven-storey structure which is accelerating the leasing demand for the remaining two office floors and last retail unit.”
Lisamarie Masters, partner of architects Botelho Wood, said: “From the first steel placement a year ago, until today, there are over 1,000 structural steel beams and columns erected on this project.
“This achievement reflects the tireless efforts of planning, coordination and craftsmanship. We are proud of the team whose efforts made this possible.”
With the structural steel phase now complete, work will progress to the next stage, including exterior building envelope installation, infrastructure works and interior fit-out. Teams will continue advancing towards key benchmarks, bringing Luscar Place closer to completion next summer.
