Multi-talented athlete Bruce DeGrilla Jr captured his third consecutive GP 125cc championship during Bermuda Motorcycle Racing Club’s (BMRC) season finale at Southside on Sunday. The CedarBridge Academy student entered the final race day of the 2011 season tied on points with rookie Jordan Fletcher. But this was as far as the similarities between both riders went as DeGrilla held his nerve when it mattered most, reeling off a first and two seconds in the day’s three races to clinch the championship by a 30-point margin over Fletcher, who faded down the stretch.Fletcher finished second followed by Koshun Durrant who rounded off the top three.DeGrilla, who is also a promising track and field athlete, capped a memorable afternoon of racing in the GP 125cc class by winning the Kyle Pimental Memorial Trophy in the Race of Champions, honouring the legacies of late champions.Laying claim to the Mini Bike Open championship was Tamia Place. He posted three consecutive third place finishes to win the Mini Bike Open championship by 14 points over nearest rival Coleridge Fubler, who made a clean sweep on the day only to come up short in the end.Fubler finished second in the season points standings followed by Monique Waite in third.Securing the third and final championship up for grabs at the Bermuda Motorsports Park track was Peter Terciera in the Supermoto class.Terceira won the trophy in style, winning all three races to underline his dominance.Earlston Bradshaw placed second in the Supermoto class season points standings followed by Kewuan Gilbert in third.Others making a clean sweep of top honours in their respective classes were Jazari Caisey (Mini GP 80), Kenneth DeSilva (Scooter Open), Brandon DeSilva (Street Bike), Shannon Caisey (Super Bike) and Kewuan Gilbert (Formula). In the remaining Race of Champions Memorial Races, Shannon Caisey won the Marvin (Skinny) Robinson Memorial Trophy in the 600cc class while son Jazari claimed the Toriano Wilson Memorial Trophy in the GP 80 class.Clinching this season’s team championship was Pizza House Racing Team.* For more pictures click here.
