Expert motorcycle racer Paul DeCouto has declared himself fit to compete at this weekend’s Championship Cup (CCS) Southeast & Mid-Atlantic Championship Series at Carolina Motorsports Park in South Carolina. The 42-year-old Bermudian injured his ankle and shoulder after being forced off the race track at last month’s WERA Nationals at Roebling Road in Savannah Georgia but has recovered enough since then to resume racing on the CCS circuit in the United States.“My injuries have healed to about 95 percent with my ankle and 85 percent with my shoulder,” DeCouto told The Royal Gazette. The Cycle Care co-owner is set to compete in four separate classes (GTO Formula 40, Unlimited GP, Unlimited Supersport and Unlimited Superbike) on his modified Suzuki GSX-R 1000 in what is predicted to be warm weather conditions at the 2.2 mile long Carolina Motorsports Park race track.“The weather will be sunny with temperatures ranging from 35 degrees at night to 89 degrees during the day,” DeCouto said.Just prior to his mishap during his last outing on the CCS circuit at Roebling Road DeCouto shaved one second off his fastest lap time (1.13).The veteran motorcycle racer, who was crowned national champion in the Formula Expert 40 Class at last October’s CCS Race of Champions at Daytona International Speedway, has made a very promising start to this year’s CCS campaign.DeCouto has seven podium finishes already under his belt, including a win in the Formula 40 Expert Class at last February’s CCS season-opener at Homestead Miami Speedway.
