Alexander Roque clinched the 125cc Shifter Class Championship at the weekend

Alexander Roque clinched the 125cc Shifter Class championship with a race day to spare after producing a steady display during weekend Karting at Southside.Competing among the largest field ever at the new Southside racing facility, Roque managed three top five finishes that was enough to secure the points championship.Scott Barnes made a clean sweep of top honours in the day’s three heats in the 125cc Shifter Class while Shannon Caisey had an equally consistent three seconds.Rookie Stephen Corrado recorded a milestone after earning his first chequered flag in the TAG Senior Class in the day’s first heat. Corrado also had a second and third to cap a memorable day at the race track.Patrick Ingham and David Barbosa are currently tied at the top of the TAG Senior Class points standings with one race day remaining in the 2012 campaign.Amber Lopes kept on course for the Junior Clone Class (12-15 years) championship after winning two of the day’s three heats. Lopes currently leads nearest rival Al Seymour Jr by 106 points heading into the April 29 season finale.Ryan Lopes clinched the Junior Clone Class (7-12 years) earlier this month. Lopes won two of the day’s three heats at the weekend to further exert his dominance on the field.First time class winner Zanardi Daley won the remaining heat in the Junior Clone Class (7-12 years) respectively.The 2012 Karting season finale will see drivers compete in one final points heat worth double points.Drivers will discard their worst three finishes of the 2012 campaign from their total to give them their final points tally of the season, which will go some way towards deciding the remaining championships up for grabs.The last race day of the season will also feature various recreational events, such as races involving mechanics and women drivers.
