DeGrilla and Wilson claim first stage wins

Bruce DeGrilla Jr and Keanu Wilson held off Cyril Whitter III to win the first stage of the Bermuda Motorcycle Racing Club (BMRC) Two-Hour Endurance Series at the Southside Racetrack at the weekend.The Team Honda Racing pair completed 165 laps between them in the allocated time in the Superbike class, 11 laps more than second placed Whitter III representing Team Energizer Bunny.Third place went to Team Green compromising of Edward Daniels and Billy Dunn (145 laps), while Team Nuff Style Racing’s Jacob Sousa and Cody Sousa-Saints (68 laps) rounded out the top four.In total, ten racers across six teams entered the gruelling test of stamina and endurance, with BMRC president Whitter III pleased to see the event embraced and well received.“The racing was very good and both racers and fans alike said they liked the format and can’t wait for the second race.”Riders were eligible for one of two classes: Superminis class (Under 125cc) or the Superbikes class (GP 125s, Formula Extreme or Superbike 600).The team that completed the most laps in each classification not only took home the bragging rights but a cash purse of $250, while second overall received a $100 purse and the third place team $50.The dynamics of the two-hour endurance race saw the riders pitting to refuel, intake fluids and change over of riders.Additionally there was a mandatory pit stop which included a direction change on the circuit for the remainder of the event.In the Supermini class, Team Fed Up’s Ryan Resendes completed 144 laps, 18 laps more than the trio of Jeneko Place, Tamia Place and Haley Place of Place Racing Team to take top honours.“The three-race Endurance Series has assisted the club to extend the motorcycle racing season whilst providing an alternative motorcycle racing discipline into the local sport,” added Whitter.“Thank you to our sponsors DHL Bermuda Ltd and Autobahn Accessories.”The next Endurance Race Series event is scheduled for March 23.For more information about the BMRC scheduled of events visit www.bmrc.bm.
